Clockwork Comedy presents a comedy show at Grant’s Lounge
Patrick Cunningham is the founder, producer and host of the monthly Clockwork Comedy shows at Grant’s Lounge and other venues around Macon.
MACON, Georgia – Clockwork Comedy is bringing the love of laughter back to central Georgia.
Founder, producer and host Patrick Cunningham started Clockwork Comedy about seven years ago in Birmingham, Alabama, before moving to Macon.
Cunningham began doing local shows in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic brought it to a close, but they quickly picked up with shows at The Society Garden and StartUP Studios.
âI noticed that there was sort of a comedy void here in Macon. There is comedy here; but it’s inconsistent, disorganized and I don’t hit it, but the quality of the shows has gone up and down, âhe said.
To change the issues he saw, Cunningham spent time bringing comics from all over the United States to perform in Macon in different locations.
Most of the comics he brings to Central Georgia are not only influencers in his comedy work, but also friends he has made over time.
Cunningham says people often think they need to go to other cities to see some quality comedy, but he wants to show the Maconites that they can have a good laugh here at home.
“Almost like they felt like they didn’t deserve a great comedy or that everything that came out of Macon wouldn’t be on the same level … I’m trying to change that narrative because this city is wonderful, and I see all the good things that people are doing here, and frankly this city deserves a good comedy, so I’m trying to make that happen, âhe said.
Cunningham has worked with several local comics such as AP la Diva, Tall Trey, Rum Dean, Caroline Exum and more.
You can catch a Clockwork Comedy show at several local venues, but Cunningham described Grant’s Lounge as their mothership show. They plan to organize a comedy show there every month.
âHonestly, it couldn’t be a better place. Grant’s is historic and wonderful, it’s the perfect mood for comedy, âCunningham said.
Clockwork Comedy will host a show featuring Memphis headliners – Mo Alexander and Esteban – as well as the Warner Robins comic book, AP the Diva, on November 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
Alexander has been in comedy for over 20 years and says he’s thrilled to play Macon. He says guests should expect “a lot of silliness” when they come to his shows.
âSo I haven’t been to Macon in a while and I miss Macon because these people are kind of ridiculous,â Alexander said.
Cunningham says he hopes to see more people at the shows and plans to do bigger and better Clockwork Comedy shows as time goes on.
âI feel like it’s a city with a lot of history, a lot of soul, and I feel like it’s a perfect place for comedy,â he said.
