Comedy show Splits and Giggles is coming to Amberwood Lounge & Eatery (ALE) – Stittsville Central

Tamara Scarowsky is a family law attorney and chair of the board of directors of Collaborative Divorce Ottawa (CDO), a non-profit trade association. On June 9, CDO presents Splits & Giggles a comedy night about family dynamics, single parenting and starting over in Stittsville.

Tamara tells Stittsville Central that, “Divorce and separation rates have risen sharply since the pandemic, Ottawa family law litigants are turning away new clients, and our family court has huge backlogs. It doesn’t seem like a laughing matter, but sometimes in the midst of tough times you just need to find a little humor!”

Therefore, on June 9eCDO made the decision to share a little humor by hosting an in-person comedy charity show at the Amberwood Lounge and Eatery (ALE) in Stittsville. The comedy show will feature some awesome comics including Rachelle Elie, Rob Ross and Ron Josal. The show will be hosted by Rachelle Elie, with a Johnny Vegas pre-show. Other performers will include Janelle Niles, Lorenzo Patino and Ceilidh Henderson.

CDO felt that the name of the show should reflect the situation, bringing to the fore the humorous side of any breakup situation, so I imagined “Splits & Giggles: A comedy about divorce and starting over”.

Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Parents’ Lifeline of Eastern Ontario (PLEO), a charity that helps parents of children with mental health issues. Donations will be accepted during the evening or you can visit the website.

Tamara shared, “By hosting this event, we hope to raise awareness about the collaborative divorce process, which is a structured negotiation process that helps a separating couple plan for their family’s future without resorting to the adversarial approach. The goal is not so much to bring people to the event itself (which would also be great!), but rather to use the event as a springboard to start important conversations about the collaborative divorce process and how it could help people. It’s a really innovative approach, and not as well known as it should be!

Splits & Giggles takes place on Thursday, June 9, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and the show at 7:30 p.m. The tickets are $32 for the show – add dinner for $15. Gluten-free and vegan options are available. Drinks are sold separately. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes!
