‘Dahmer’ is Netflix’s second most popular show

The watching audience apparently has macabre taste.

“Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is now the second most popular netflix ever show.

The platform’s stats for the week of October 3-9 showed that the drama, starring Evan Peters as a notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmerhas attracted 205.33 million hours viewing time worldwide. This brings its total watch time to 701.37 million hours since its premiere on September 21.

It pushed him even beyond the steamy Shonda Rhimes hit “Bridgerton.” (Season 2 had 656.26 million hours in its first month.)

Officially, this makes “Dahmer” the second most-watched English-language show in Netflix history, behind season 4 of “stranger things”, which occupies the first place with 1.35 billion hours viewed.

Co-creator ryan murphy finally scored a win for Netflix – and all it took was one infamous serial killer to do it.

Murphy’s original deal with Netflix was mind-blowing $300 million for five years, signed in 2018. Since then, he hasn’t seemed to add much to the platform. He released shows such as “Hollywood”, “The Politician”, “Halstonand “Ratched,” but they all received mixed reviews, and none of them set the world on fire. “The Politician” would have only hung a measly 2.3% of Netflix viewers.

Murphy continued to produce his pre-existing Fox projects, such as “Quarrel», « 9-1-1 », «Laid” and “American crime history‘, all of which permeated the zeitgeist more than ‘The Politician’ and ‘Halston’.

But while it was a ratings hit — and a necessary victory for Murphy — “Dahmer” was not without controversy and criticism.

Families of Dahmer’s victims have taken to social media to express his distress that this program and its advertising “re-traumatize again and again, and for what? Dahmer was a serial killer who murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991 in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. He was killed while incarcerated in 1994.

There has also been a disturbing fan trend who are hot for Dahmer — or at least they post thirsty tweets such as “Jeffrey Dahmers mugshot definitely gives something that I didn’t know or thought it would give.” Viewers on Twitter also lost it to apparent Dahmer Halloween costumes.

“Dahmer” is currently streaming on Netflix.
