Think about the worst teacher you had when you were a kid.

Mine was Coach Nichols, second year. To punish all the boys in PE class for showing up late after recess, one Friday afternoon she called it a “free day” and told us we were going to watch a movie instead of doing exercises.

She then played a VHS copy of the 1987 animated film, The Chipmunk Adventure. As soon as the movie started, she told all the boys to turn around and watch the opposite wall for the whole class. She also warned us that if we turned around to look, we would be in a lot of trouble.

A boy did. We never saw him again.

We don’t know if the teacher-comedians who will take the stage LOL are as awful as Coach Nichols, but we’re sure they’re not bad enough to say, “Hey boys, you really miss a great movie in this moment” as we sat with our backs to the TV.

Discussion topics for Teachers Gone Bad will include family, parenting, dating, marriage, and how each of these impacted their students so deeply emotionally that they’ll probably end up writing about it years later.

$20-$40, 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 14, Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, 618 NW Loop 410, (210) 541-8805,
