Former Hollyoaks star James Redmond recently landed a role on The Outlaws and the 50-year-old looks unrecognizable from his days on the soap opera.

The actor, who played Rory ‘Finn’ Finnigan on the Channel 4 show from 1997 to 2002, will appear in the second series of the comedy thriller later this year.

In an Instagram post in which he posed with director Stephen Merchant, the Bristolian sported a beard and gray hair – a pretty stark contrast to his time on the Chester set.

Alongside the photo, he wrote: “Season 2 of ‘THE OUTLAWS’ will launch next month on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Prime Video internationally later this year.

“Excellent script, stellar cast and lush locations. Glad to have been cast in an episode. Fairplay [sic] to the all-rounder Stephen Merchant and congratulations to all who participated.”

Fans and celebrity friends were quick to congratulate the star, with actress and former Casualty co-star Sunetra Sarker replying, “I made you up James!! Great show.”

Another former co-star, Paul Danan, added: “Jim this is amazing, I’m so proud of you.”

DJ Martin Bundsen said, “So good! Hope you’re a great mate!”

The first series of Bristol-based The Outlaws aired in October last year to critical acclaim. It focuses on a group of juvenile delinquents from different backgrounds (including Stephen as failed lawyer Greg Dillard), who are brought together in a community recovery program.

Stephen previously said: “More than anything I’ve done before, it was a real team effort to try and bring it all together.

“I certainly think I’m aware of everything we put into the show, our program and how it might be perceived.

“I think things have changed and my own opinions have changed over time. I’ve been doing this for about 20 years.”

Also starring Christopher Walken as Frank Sheldon, Nina Wadia as Shanthi Rekowski and Ian McElhinney as John Halloran Snr, the second series hits our screens in June.
