After more than a year of work during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Grand Lawrence Family Health Center took time to laugh and relax with friends and supporters at the 11th annual In Pink comedy show on Thursday last, online.
In Pink has raised nearly $ 50,000 for women’s health programs. Headlining actress Judy Carter was joined by friends Drs. Lynette Charity and Shelby Lane. The medical practitioners are also comedians and have helped to make people laugh during the night.
âYou’ve been stressed and I know how stressed you have been. “So what can you do about it?” You can laugh about it, âCarter joked.
The event also honors inspirational people who selflessly give to those in need. Four members of Borislow Insurance received the Rosalyn Kempton Wood Award for Inspirational Leadership. The award honors the memory of Wood, a longtime friend of the health center whose generosity has helped ensure that women in need across the Merrimack Valley receive basic and essential health care.
The 2021 award went to Jen Borislow, Melissa Marrama, Judy Tomeo and Collette Turgeon. Each gave to those in need during the pandemic in countless ways, including mobilizing teams to provide resources to the homeless and providing frontline health workers with thousands of sandwiches, hot meals, fresh fruit cups, personal protective equipment, care baskets and inspirational messages.
âThese women have been exemplary,â said Guy Fish, President and CEO of the Health Center. âRather than sit back and watch COVID-19 take lives, they each found a way to give back to the community and help others,â Fish added.
MP Lori Trahan, keynote speaker, highlighted the important role that community health centers play in their regions.
âLike all of you, I remember each year how important In Pink fundraising is to our community,â said Trahan. “By supporting the incredible work of the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, In Pink is helping so many women.”
