Inspirational show host shares his entertainment journey
Adeniyi Lawal (48), known as “King Nee”, hosts an inspiring show, Gold, which airs on Soweto TV on channel 251.
The show was created to motivate, encourage and inspire people to live their lives in a positive way. It also inspires people to achieve their dreams and find purpose in life.
This actor, artist, MC and presenter started in the entertainment industry in 1985 in Lomé, the capital of Togo, his country of origin. Started as a singer in 2001, Lawal entered the television industry when he presented a show called Wishes on TV2 in Togo, and he has not lacked support since.
The Ferndale resident believes his arrival in South Africa around eight years ago has been a blessing in all aspects of his life. “The first gig was a pan-African TV series called The Dragon, followed by Lincoln’s Clan and Closets, and I organized a few events and finally found my purpose by writing Gold,” he said.
Back when he appeared on these shows, Lawal was not fully in the entertainment space. He had to cut his hair so he could help his daughter return home and survive. “I left the show to focus on my productions about two years ago because I believe I was made to inspire and change the world to be a better place.”
Gold’s first season was recorded in 2019 and premiered on Mpuma Kapa TV in the Eastern Cape. It was then followed by a second season earlier this year on the same channel. In October, they switched to Soweto TV on DSTV 251 and the show airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. and repeats Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. The show also airs on Starsat Channel 488 on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. and repeats every Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
