Introvert Sonam Bajwa has become a confident talk show host with Dil Diyan Gallan: The Tribune India

Within a decade, Sonam Bajwa has established herself as Pollywood’s leading lady. With movies like Sardaar Ji, Nikka Zaildar, Manje Bistre, Carry On Jatta 2, Ardab Mutiyaran and Honsla Rakh under her belt, the girl from Uttarakhand has now called Mumbai home. In Chandigarh, to promote the second season of Dil Diyan Gallan, Sonam opens up about how she likes being a host!

Growing up in Uttar Pradesh, and later in Uttarakhand, acting was not on Sonam’s agenda. She moved to Delhi for graduation. She tried her luck with beauty contests, but life changed when a movie fell in her lap. “The Best Of Luck team was looking for a Punjabi speaking actor. Simran Kaur Mundi who is the former Miss India was in the cast and she suggested my name. After the audition I got the role “, says Sonam, who feels lucky to have been able to start her acting career with a Punjabi film. “I am very lucky that my first film was in Punjabi.” But the real challenge for her was to choose between her job and the movie.” My first job was being a flight attendant. It was indeed a tough call to pick one over the other. I picked up the movie and the rest, as they say , is history.

Last year, Sonam hosted Zee Punjabi’s show Dil Diyan Gallan, an act she found quite difficult at first. “I’m introverted and for me, meeting someone for the first time and talking to them was very difficult. I was comfortable with the people I knew and worked with.

However, Season 1 helped Sonam overcome her inhibition and she is actually looking forward to Season 2. Ask her who her favorite guest on her show is, she quickly replies, “Sidhu (Moosewala). The time I spent with him was special. Unfortunately, I could never talk to him again.

Dil Diyan Gallan Season 2 is going to be bigger and better, promises Sonam. “I love the format – we play games and have a heart to heart conversation. Also this year the focus would be on living rare moments with celebrities sharing their dil diya gallan with me!

Although Sonam doesn’t name her favorite host, she really wants to see Diljit Dosanjh as her host. “While Diljit is fun and exceptionally professional, he also takes the time to open up to new people. I’m sure he would be fabulous as a host but would love to see how he does it!”

Sonam has worked with almost every Punjabi actor, her favorite co-star, however, remains Ammy Virk. “Ammy is a friend and the job doesn’t feel like working with friends. She’s a wonderful co-star.

Sonam is working on a few projects. Carry On Jatta 3 is scheduled for release next year. “There’s another movie coming out next month, and there are other projects. The effort is always there to do something different!
