Mike Rowe’s Popular Show “Returning The Favor” Canceled By Facebook

Fans of former “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe are in shock after revealing Wednesday that his beloved “Returning the Favor” web series, which features him traveling across the United States “in search of remarkable people who make a difference in their communities ”, is canceled by Facebook.

Here’s the official trailer in case you haven’t seen it:

Rowe reveals Facebook canceled ‘return of the favor’

“I got a phone call yesterday from Facebook telling me that [‘Returning the Favor’] wouldn’t be back for another season, ”Rowe wrote on Facebook. “Obviously, I was surprised. “

“’Returning the favor’ has been a very successful endeavor, and the feedback from everyone has been overwhelmingly good – from the first favor returned to the 100th,” he added. “In fact, it’s the only program I’ve ever worked on [that] never received a single negative review or a single critical comment. In this way, it was truly unprecedented.

With so much negativity and division in the world, “Returning The Favor” was a positive show that aimed to focus on the things we all have in common as human beings.

The basic premise of the web series was that while Rowe was profiling people on camera, others would secretly work behind the scenes to do something nice for the individual featured in each episode.

Each episode ended with a big reveal that brought a range of emotions from tears to laughter, and everything in between.

The show was exactly what many of us thought we needed right now in a time filled with so much darkness, but obviously Facebook didn’t feel the same.

Rowe shares promotional video

“Last week I saw a short marketing video for the upcoming season,” Rowe added. “Obviously this video is no longer relevant, but I still wanted to share it with you, because it shows how unique this show was and how many people it has reached.”

“More importantly, it reinforces the undeniable fact that ‘Returning the favor’ simply couldn’t have happened without the people on this page,” he continued. “Take a look at it, and as you watch, remember that you made it possible. “

While Rowe has every reason to be furious with Facebook for canceling his program, he once again showed how classy he is by taking the high road. He thanked the social media platform “for their support over the past four seasons”.

“No network would have given me so much leeway to do such an honest show, or invested so generously in a 22-minute online program,” Rowe continued. “With their help, we’ve given over $ 5 million to people who are trying to make their community a better place. “

Rowe’s fans hit back at Facebook

Rowe’s fans, however, haven’t been so easy on Facebook as they made it known that the show’s cancellation was a big mistake.

“Bad (again) on Facebook,” wrote one commentator. “’Returning the Favor’ is a wonderful spectacle, helping us remember that there is hope and goodness no matter what is going on in the world. I sincerely hope that it will be recovered elsewhere.

“In the meantime, it just means LESS time I spend on Facebook,” the Facebook user added. “Keep up the good work Mike and company.”

“I loved this show! Did they give a reason? asked another fan. “God forbid, we have a show that promotes positivity and shows the good of humanity; instead, Facebook chose to censor people and focus on division and negativity… well, I hope another network takes over this most amazing showcase of humanity at its best!

“This show was ‘All American’. He celebrated the salt of the earth. The good people of America do great things every day that too often have gone unnoticed by most of us, ”said a third distraught fan.

“The reason being that they weren’t doing these things to be noticed, but because they saw a need in their community and strived to meet it,” the fan continued. “Who knows how many have been inspired to do the same. Thanks Mike Rowe! Keep up the good work! “

A fan of the show even asked if another platform would pick up the show:

It’s sad that we live in a time when a healthy, all-American show like “Returning The Favor” is canceled while so many division and offensive programs remain on the air.
