About Sophie Santos
From Sophie Santos, one of comedy’s most exciting emerging voices, comes an honestly funny memoir about the hilarious and hilarious journey of becoming an adult and thriving. Sophie’s first book, The one you want to marry (and other identities I’ve had), hits shelves on October 1.
Here’s the synopsis of the book: The only child of an ever-changing Philippine-Spanish US Army officer and Spitfire nurse, Sophie Santos spent her early years starting over and over again and racking up her fair share of anxieties. Growing up in 99.6% white communities, where girls had to learn to display petroleum-capped smiles before being considered real women, Sophie has adapted. Determined to fit in, she went from a misfit tomboy to a hormone-hungry beauty pageant contestant and a southern sorority, among other personalities. She nailed every role she took on, not in shocking ways, but nothing seemed to match her true personality. In her twenties, wading around and locked in her bedroom with looping lesbian YouTube clips, Sophie began to realize that her real self might be more of a tomboy than the southern beauty. This realization set her off on a journey that took her through an unexpected lesbian puberty and ultimately to a comedy career in New York City.
